Health or Hoax: Farm-grown vs Pool-grown

Jamaican Sea Moss

This is the last of the “Health or Hoax: Seamoss series”, I hope by the end of this post everyone and their grandmothers will be running to the store to buy this incredible superfood!

Now let’s talk about the differences between pool grown sea moss and farm grown sea moss. It sounds confusing since we may think of these two terms as one and the same; artificial and not including all the nutrients needed for it to be beneficial. This is not particularly the case.

Farm grown does not necessarily mean that the sea moss will be harmful or devoid of nutrients. Farm grown sea moss grows in a controlled area in the ocean where harvesting and growth is easier to maintain. Growing in the ocean allows the moss to retain the necessary nutrients. This type of sea moss is essential to keep up with the increasing demands of Sea Moss globally without putting a strain on the delicate ecosystem.

Remember, humans aren’t the only ones who feed on sea moss; turtles, jellyfish, seals, crustaceans, etc, all depend on sea moss for food and it is essential to the welfare of the ecosystems.

Pool grown sea moss is what we have to look out for and steer clear from. This method of growing sea moss means that the moss is grown in unnatural waters (not the ocean or anything close to the ocean) that will cause it to be devoid of the necessary nutrients needed for the body. Therefore, it would be kind of useless to be consuming what is basically a blank slate.
