About Us

Healthy Hood

Do you ever wonder why we, as people of colour, are on the staggering and negative end of health? So much so that handfuls of diseases are becoming a part of our genetics? Obesity, kidney disease, hypertension, diabetes, heart disease; these diseases are seen in our community in outrageously high percentages causing pain and suffering.

What makes healthy living such a daunting feat, for many, is that it is a continuous process that takes discipline. Discipline is needed when that motivation just falls short  and all you want to do is snuggle in bed surrounded by mounds of oreos watching netflix…I think we’ve all been there.

What we have to keep reminding ourselves through the hard days is that this is a lifestyle not a trend; ya feel me? You have to keep showing up for yourselves.

HealthyHood is not a course, a fad, a “get-in-shape-quick” scheme or a life coach seminar, but a place, a community in which people of colour, have decided that they do want to make changes for the better, changes that will improve the lives of our younger generations as we adopt them.  Where you can get the help and support you need, free of judgement and stigma.

We are fostering an environment where we are proactive versus reactive to the things life throws at us. As people of colour, we know help isn’t coming, there are things we must take into our own hands; our health being one.

Being healthy has become so synonymous with physical fitness and the “absence of illness” that we have forgotten the mental, emotional, social, financial & spiritual aspects of what it means to be healthy.

Healthy Hood is where we bridge the gap.

THIS is where you learn that it's okay to show your emotions; that emotions are not weaknesses but strengths that most fail to understand.

THIS is where we become a family and YOUR struggles are OUR struggles.

THIS is where we build our generational wealth and stop living from paycheck to paycheck; making sound investments, supporting black owned businesses.

THIS is where we allow ourselves to be thankful and connect with that higher purpose made especially for us.

It's time to broaden our narrow minded, antiquated definitions of what it means to be healthy. We need to understand, as people of colour, that our health goes down many different avenues that need to be properly cared for and maintained in order for us to grow as a people.

Our life’s journey is already a tremendous and treacherous one, why add to the negative when we can accentuate and magnify the positive. A lot is out of our control but we believe that once we all come together and strive toward similar goals, we will be UNSTOPPABLE.

Making better decisions isn’t always easy, and quite frankly, isn't always desirable, but that is why you have a BIPOC community of like-minded individuals, also on their journey, by your side for constant accountability and support.

We don’t pretend to know it all, but we are passionate and knowledgeable about healthy, happy living as a whole, and if we don’t know something we can surely lead you to the right people that can assist you in reaching your goal.

HealthyHood, because it’s YOUR life!
